Six Steps to Lasting Change

Lasting change is essential for reaching your goals in personal development and identity transformation because it involves your habits, routines, and imagination. To refine the mindset necessary for enhancing your performance in alignment with your desired identity, you must fulfil two developments to achieve lasting change. In this article, I will outline the formula for achieving lasting change:


 Formula: Change + Action = Lasting Change


Although this formula includes two developments, there are six steps that must be completed to achieve lasting change. In this article, I will detail the six essential steps to achieve lasting change as you pursue your desired identity.

Development 1: Change

Reorganizing your habits through effective habit formation techniques to establish a new foundation is crucial for achieving lasting change. As your identity is shaped by your actions. A common challenge we face while striving for our desired identity is dealing with the uncertainty coming from trying new things. We find ourselves unconsciously incompetent because we tend to focus on understanding what we don’t yet know. Here are the key steps to support your transformation.


Step 1: Strengthen Foundation

To ensure that professional growth in life persists, it's essential to begin with a solid foundation. To create this strong foundation that supports lasting change, it's necessary to have a specific goal you wish to attain and a clear understanding of why that goal matters to you. 


The clarity of what you desire is your vision, while your reason for wanting it is your purpose. Your vision guides your actions, and your purpose supplies the emotional drive necessary to maintain those actions, even when motivation decreases.

Tips for change

Why do you want it? – Although this question may seem straightforward, answering it is more challenging than you might expect. What kind of fulfilment do you seek from this identity, and do your actions and mindset truly reflect the outcome you desire?


Pain or pleasure? – A helpful approach to answering "your why" is to determine whether you're motivated by wanting to escape pain or striving for pleasure. Gaining this clarity will provide you with a clearer sense of fulfilment.


Goal Setting – Once you grasp your purpose, you can establish a goal that guides you toward your desired outcome. Setting goals serves as a navigational tool, helping you maintain focus and stay on course.


Step 2: Cutoff Unwanted Habits


After determining your destination in your identity transformation journey and gathering the emotional motivation to reach it, the next step is to create space for new actions by eliminating the habits that are holding you back. This process allows you to pinpoint the habits that need to be altered or discarded and helps you develop alternative habits that will facilitate your progress.

  • Which habits are wasting your time?

  • What is your routine?

  • Take a moment to reflect on your daily routine. Starting from when you wake up until you go to sleep.

Having identified the habits necessary to achieve your vision, it's time to turn them into automatic and regular practices. By grasping the essential elements of a habit and seamlessly integrating them into your daily routine, you can broaden your self-perception, enhance your presence in the world, and improve your outcomes in life.

In your journey towards achieving your vision and growing your identity, it's essential to harness your imagination with intention. Many individuals haven’t learned how to effectively tap into their imagination for their own advantage. Simply relying on willpower won’t bring about the profound changes needed to transform your identity. What you need is the power of a focused imagination to make that happen. The encouraging part is that using your imagination purposefully to attain your deepest desires in life can be both enjoyable and straightforward!

By emulating these individuals to replicate their success in your own way, while infusing your personal touch, you can achieve results more efficiently.

In the final step, you will draw on your new identity to wisely set yourself up for success and proactively prepare yourself for your next stage of growth.
